Over the past 8 years, one of my fears has been losing our democracy. But it has become clear that our democracy is basically already lost.
While I had the fear of losing our democracy through the republican party and the right wing super conservative movement, which is still a fear, I am now seeing that the democratic party is showing similar power grabs and control.
I don’t feel like I am living in a democracy when everyone in the democratic party has been lying to the public and hiding the fact that President Biden is too old to continue another Presidential term while at the same time telling us that the Presidential choice is binary and we have to vote for our party.
First, most of the country didn’t want President Biden to re-run for office in 2024, and now more people don’t want him to be the democratic candidate. But we are being told that the democratic party can’t choose another candidate is President Biden wants to stay.
This is not a democracy. This is one man deciding that he is the only person who can do the job at 81 years old. This is one man deciding that he is the best, smartest and most liked democratic leader who can do the job. This is one man who is single handledly destroying our democracy by, first, not giving us a choice, and second, by giving the election over to a candidate that no one likes but thinks might be more capable.
Don’t get me wrong. I do not think Trump is more capable. I think he is dangerous because, not only does he think he is above everyone else, he seems to not care about anyone else. That is unless they have alot of money or are telling him he is awesome. Whereas Biden, while showcasing that he thinks he is above everyone else, I do believe he cares about others. I think he wants to help the people of America more than the uber rich. But even that belief is being shaken because of his adamant position to stay in the race.
So if we live in a democracy, why is the choice binary? Why are we stuck with Biden? Why did the democratic party get to decide that? Why didn’t they listen to the voice of the people who didn’t want that?
What about Robert Kennedy, Jr? The story of how the democratic party wouldn’t even consider him as a candidate because Biden wasn’t stepping down, isn’t a democracy. Especially when the majority of people wanted other options.
I have never liked politics because, as the word has come to mean, it is a game of playing the system to get elected. It is a game of raising the most money and rewarding the uber rich oligarchs and authoritarian corporations by voting for what they want rather than what the people want. Now it seems to be a game of who can get in control and make the whole U.S. be like them and follow their rules and way of life.
The U.S. was built on the rebellion of people who didn’t want to live like that. People who wanted to be able to live together in a society where we can respect each other and the different beliefs we have. That U.S. is no more.
The candidate who can make that happen who is being mindful and not emotionally or financially driven, is RFK, Jr. Unless something radically changes, I will not vote for a dangerous narcissist or an ego driven unstable man. My vote is with RFK, Jr.
