In order to grow and learn to become a better person and a better nation, you have to learn and adapt.

Over the many years of human history, we have adapted. In America, we have this great constitution, which was created to establish the basic rights of all Americans and lay out a foundation of how the government should work. It was just what we needed at the time it was written. But being written in the 1700’s, it included things like slavery, because at the time, slavery was a grim reality in America. So, obviously, to grow as a nation, the constitution had to be modified and adapted with a new understanding of humanity and growing civilized society.

So why is it that so many Republicans and Pro-Gun Activists use the Constitutions original quote on the right to bear arms as applying to our civilized society today? We are not living in the wild west. We have become a civilized people who should not need guns as a form of defense. We no longer have to form organized militia’s in our communities to fight against the government, should the government become corrupt, by force of our guns. We have police to manage crimes and go after criminals. We do not need to buy guns for protection.

Protection as a reason to buy a gun, by the way is the worst excuse for having a gun. More people are killed accidentally, in domestic disputes or by way of drug and alcohol related gun use by these guns purchased to protect, then are saved by having these guns. Buying a gun increases your chance of getting shot or killed by one. The statistics prove that owning a gun in today’s society does not make you safer, it makes you less safe. You are at a higher risk. Because NOT EVERYONE SHOULD OWN A GUN!

So Pro-gunners, before you attack me with your rhetoric about why you have the right to own a gun, let me ask you this…

You also have the right to drive a car, but you have to EARN that right by driving for 1 year with a permit and in most states, take a drug and alcohol test and then take and pass a driving test to prove you have the skill required to drive a car safely, prior to gaining that RIGHT to a drivers license and to drive a car. Why, because cars kill people! People who drive drunk or while on drugs kill people! People who do not follow the rules of the road, kill people! People who do not know how to properly operate the vehicle kill people!
So Why, when wanting to purchase a weapon that has only one purpose, to kill, are people not required to go through more rigorous training and trial periods then then getting a drivers license?

So to all you pro-gunners, is it too much to ask that the people getting these deadly weapons EARN the right to bear them?

It should be harder to get a gun then a drivers license!

Here’s my proposal: 1 year of courses to learn about the safety of guns, education on the problems with guns when you are drinking or doing drugs, how to handle guns, when it would be appropriate to use a gun, the statistics of gun use in domestic violence…and then a test/evaluation on your mental state, your ability to handle the gun, and your reason for wanting the gun.

Any pro-gun activist who doesn’t agree with this I feel may have anger issues and/or mental issues that would prevent them from wanting to prove they themselves are sane enough and qualilified to own a gun! I mean, what other reason would you have for not wanting these safety measures placed on this right to bear a deadly weapon? Would you be ok with someone who has never driven a car before, getting in the drivers seat and driving your kids around? Of course not. Or that same person driving through your neighborhood where your kids are outside playing? Of course not. You would want them to have proper training. So why would you not want all these gun owners to have the proper training and, because it is a one purpose deadly weapon, mental evaluation, prior to owning the gun?

It is because of the people who want to hold so hard to laws and beliefs that are outdated in today’s civilized society, why we are failing in America and why other countries are growing faster and becoming better nations for their people.

In order for progress to happen in America, we need to move forward and arming every American with a gun, is not a step to “insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare”, as the constitution, in it’s opening statement, recognizes as rights that every American should have. But thinking that you can stop terrorism by giving everyone a gun is like saying you can lose weight if you put more donuts in your house. Adding more quantity to the equation, doesn’t eliminate the use!

More guns in the hands of everyone and anyone is not safe, civilized or the direction any American should be wanting to go.

I believe in humanity and in Americans. I believe that the majority of people do not want to have guns and that only the media is fearing them into thinking they need them. I believe that the NRA is causing an uprising that is unnecessary in a civilized society. Keep your right to bear arms! JUST EARN THAT RIGHT! Put regulations on gun ownership! What is wrong with a group of people who doesn’t believe that these deadly weapons should have regulations and that people owning them shouldn’t have to be trained in the safety, use and statistics of deaths by guns? If you are a civilized person, you should welcome regulations on a deadly weapon.
